Tellurian Networks Fall 2003 System Upgrades

Tuesday, October 14, 2003 — As Tellurian Networks grows, we constantly need to upgrade our software, servers, and other equipment to continue providing fast and reliable Internet services. From October 2003 until the end of this year, we will be performing several major infrastructure upgrades.

Below is a rough schedule of these anticipated network and system upgrades.

  • October-December 2003 - Installation of New High-Speed Circuits

DESCRIPTION: Installation of new high-speed data circuits between Jersey City, NJ location and Newton, NJ co-location center. Installation of additional high speed transit circuit to Newton, NJ facility. Expansion into our second New York City POP which includes installation of high speed circuits for network connectivity and a presence in the NYIIX public peering exchange.

BENEFIT: Increased Internet bandwidth, efficient connectivity, reduced network latency and additional network redundancies.

AFFECTS: This upgrade is not anticipated to affect any customers.

STATUS: NJ upgrades completed / NY upgrades in process

  • October 2003 - Mail Server Upgrade

DESCRIPTION: Installation of new mail server and webmail for customers with @tellurian.com, @tellurian.net, @garden.net, @rtonline.net, @lsa.net, and @nerc.com email addresses.

BENEFIT: Improved email services, webmail with more features, and webmail with integrated spam filtering for customers with @tellurian.com, @tellurian.net, @garden.net, @rtonline.net, @lsa.net, and @nerc.com email addresses.

AFFECTS: This upgrade may affect a small portion of Tellurian Networks customers and former RT-Online customers with outdated mail server information. This upgrade may also affect a small portion of business Vmail customers with outdated mail server information. This upgrade WILL affect any Tellurian Networks customers that had spam filtering rules set-up on the spamfilter.tellurian.com server - for these customers, existing spam filtering rules will be imported into the new webmail system and then become accessible from there.

Please see the following links for proper email program configurations to assure that your settings are correct BEFORE this upgrade.

IMPORTANT! Business customers with Vmail service must have their incoming and outgoing mail servers set to mail.yourdomain.com where "yourdomain.com" is your organization's domain name. Failure to do so will result in an inability to download email after this upgrade.

Please also see the main set-up instructions page for more information.

STATUS: This upgrade was completed on October 30, 2003.

  • December 2003 - Dial-Up Equipment Upgrade

DESCRIPTION: Installation of new dial-up equipment for a portion of our NY/NJ service areas.

BENEFIT: V.92 capabilities and better compatibility with a wider range of modems.

AFFECTS: This upgrade is not anticipated to adversely affect any customers.

STATUS: This upgrade was completed on December 1, 2003.
