How to do I find the "message header" information for email that I have received?

The directions below describe how you can find the message headers for your specific email client.

Microsoft Outlook Express for Macintosh

  1. Highlight the email.
  2. In the View menu, select Source.
  3. A new window will appear containing the email with full headers. Select all, then copy.

Microsoft Outlook Express

  1. Open the "File" menu.
  2. Open "Properties".
  3. Open the "Details" tab.
  4. Open "Message Source".
  5. Highlight then copy everything in the window.

Microsoft Exchange

  1. Open the "File" menu.
  2. Then "Properties".
  3. Then click the "Details" tab.
  4. Choose "Message Source".
  5. Copy everything from the "Message Source" box.

Netscape

  1. Click on the "View" menu.
  2. Then "Page Source".
  3. Copy the header.

Microsoft Outlook Web Access

  1. Left click on the letter and then click properties.
  2. Then on the details tab.
  3. Then click on message source.
  4. This will open the email exposing the headers.
  5. Copy the text.

Juno

  1. Click "file" and then "Save Message as Text File".
  2. Then save to your desktop or other place you will remember.
  3. Open the saved file to reveal the message details.

Eudora

  1. Double clicking on the subject line to open the email.
  2. Click on 'blah blah blah' to expose the header information.

Hotmail

  1. Click on "Options."
  2. Under the "Additional Options" section.
  3. Choose "Mail Display Options"
  4. Look for "Message Headers."
  5. Select "Advanced" and hit the "OK" button.
  6. Use the "View E-mail Message Source" to display the message with the header.

Yahoo Mail

  1. Inside the email click the 'Full Headers' button.

Excite web-mail

  1. Choose on Preferences on the Email home page.
  2. Click on Email Preferences.
  3. Select the box to display the headers.
  4. Choose to Save.

Netscape Webmail

  1. With the message highlighted.
  2. Click the yellow triangle to the right side of the partial message headers.
  3. The full headers will then be displayed.
