QUESTION:

I think I may be infected with spyware as I am getting bombarded with pop-up advertisements and my computer is generally slow as of late. How do I get rid of this spyware?

POSSIBLE SOLUTION(S):

It is possible that your machine is infested with "spyware", adware, or some other form of similar malicious and/or mischievous software.

Spyware and adware are small software programs, scripts, cookies, etc., that are installed usually without your consent on your computer as your surf the web, accidentally visit a malicious web site, and/or download and install questionable third party software. Spyware can monitor and report back your surfing habits, your e-mail habits, and generally anything about your online behaviour to the company that created the spyware. The most malicious spyware can also include "keystroke loggers" that can steal your user names and passwords and then report that information back to an unknown 3rd party. Spyware can also be the source of unrequested and unwanted pop-up advertisement windows as you surf to nearly any web site on the Internet.
